“Packer” is the type of gelding the West was won on! Standing 16h, weighing 1300 lbs, and wearing a size one shoe all the way around, this six year old gelding is strong, sturdy, and has a presence. Out of a daughter of Valentine Red Rogers, who is by Gooseberry, arguably one of Blue Valentines best producing sons, “Packer’s” sire also goes back to some of the foundation greats, such as, Hancocks, Blue Boy, Mr Pete Oswald, & Roan Bar Ann. This gelding is foundation bred through and through. We have ridden several of “Packers” paternal siblings, and a handful of his sisters are some of our best riding, and producing mares. We are no stranger to his bloodlines! “Packer” has started his career as a fine ranch horse, most all of his riding done by us. He has spent countless long days packing his rider safely across various mountain ranges to gather cattle. This gelding is good to rope on and has been used to doctor calves, yearlings, and the occasional cow or bull. Aside from ranch life, he knows the sale barn scene and has spent many nights penning back cattle by the light of a cell phone. If you need a horse to sort on, “Packer” will put on a show, whether it’s cows and calves or mares and foals. He has been one of the geldings we have used to gather our broodmare bands. This last fall “Packer” made a big trip into the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, well respected rough country. On the 30 mile ride in he packed cookware and groceries, and on the ride out wild game. This gelding knows country! While he is an incredible asset to us as a ranch horse he has also made a transition into the arena and will really excel as a head horse for someone if they choose to further his training.
